Abington Art Center is a community center focused on music, drawing, painting, oil, ceramics, metals, sewing, embroidery, pottery, and jewelry classes. It is an outdoor free concert venue, with theater, dance, jazz, and live music on stage. You can buy gifts, crafts, bracelets, necklaces, and rings at the unique holiday fair.

Plein Air Painting

Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while painting the grounds of Abington Art Center. Work with acrylic, oil or watercolor, and we can guide you to paint an image depicting the sweeping vistas and woods from the terrace or the perfect location that you choose.

Alla Prima Landscape Painting

The beauty of nature is a source of unending inspiration for the artist taking their paints outdoors. In this class you will capture the magic of the sunlight as it creates patterns of light and shadow in the landscape. Through learning to paint quickly, you will record your first impression of the moving light across the landscape. We will explore different aspects of painting outdoors such as: how to create a sense of space in your painting, high key painting, color, value, composition, editing and brushwork. You will complete one to two paintings per session.

Printmaking

Create images that apply water based printmaking methods that incorporate a range of traditional and modern techniques. Printmaking is a process that promotes experimentation, allowing your work to evolve over time.

Music Theory

Learn about music and why it sounds the way it does. By the end of the class you will have written a short composition and know the basics of how to write a classical piece of music. We’ll cover the circle of fifths, chord progressions, harmonies, and more!

Advanced Metalsmithing

This is a class for students who have experience with designing and creating their own jewelry. Learn advanced processes of metalsmithing and work with your peers as you support each other in this challenging and fun environment. Our instructor will share her expertise with you while assisting your growth and development as an artist.

Intermediate Jewelry

Refine your design and metalsmithing skills as you delve further into the metal craft medium. You will feel a sense of accomplishment as you advance your artwork to the next level. Permission from the instructor is required.

Jewelry and Metals

This class is for both beginners and students with more experience in jewelry making. Study the techniques that transform metal, stone, or other materials into jewelry. Learn new skills to support creative ideas that improve jewelry and metalwork.

Throwing and Hand Building

For potters of all levels and abilities who want to perfect their skills in handbuilding or wheel throwing to create an array of ceramic pieces such as cups, bowls, or sculpture. Experiment with surface design in order to improve the quality of your work. By repeating the class, the more accomplished you will become at the craft.

Ceramic tools and clay are purchased separately.

Wheel Throwing
Instructor | Teresa Thompson

Tuesdays 6:30pm-9:30pm
July 13, 20, 27, August 3, 10, 16

Study the basics of wheel throwing and learn to make a variety of both decorative and functional mugs, cups, bowls, vases, and more. Utilize surface decoration techniques to enhance your creations. This course is open to the beginner on the potter’s wheel as well as the more experienced student. Ceramic tools and clay are purchased separately.
