Abington Art Center is a community center focused on music, drawing, painting, oil, ceramics, metals, sewing, embroidery, pottery, and jewelry classes. It is an outdoor free concert venue, with theater, dance, jazz, and live music on stage. You can buy gifts, crafts, bracelets, necklaces, and rings at the unique holiday fair.

Please check the supply list for the class. Abington Art Center does not provide supplies for adult classes. If there is no supply list, your teacher will go over supplies on the first day of class.

Age Restrictions – 16+

Students who are age 16 and older are eligible to register for adult classes. Ages 15 and younger must register for a YOUTH CLASS.

Painting

Painting Workshop | Adam Jester

This class is for painters with some experience who are looking for feedback on their techniques and approaches to oil or acrylic media. Work on an individualized basis with the teacher’s guidance so that you can develop your style at your own pace.

Take a little time observing objects and landscapes to produce drawings and watercolor paintings that feel liquid and full of movement. Color and expression welcome!

Learn the fundamentals of painting in soft pastel and discover essential techniques while practicing painting from your photo reference and from life. Learn about different surfaces such as Vellum, toned papers, brands of soft pastel, painters that use soft pastel, and how to apply soft pastel.

Develop a personal vision and aesthetic to make art from craft. This class will provide the specific instruction from the instructor for advancing your work to a higher level. You will work independently, but the class will be encouraged to provide peer feedback and support.

Study the basics of wheel throwing and learn to make a variety of both decorative and functional mugs, cups, bowls, vases, and more. Utilize surface decoration techniques to enhance your creations. This course is open to the beginner on the potter’s wheel as well as the more experienced student.

Printmaking, Papermaking & More

Non-Toxic Printmaking | Patricia Shaw Lima

Discover the many variations of safe printmaking methods including monotype, collagraph, linocut and drypoint. These mediums provide an introduction to the art of printmaking to the novice and a refresher course for those that have some printmaking experience. The class is tailored to the students’ interests. It allows for individualized instruction with ongoing demonstrations and informal critiques. The class environment is one of mutual support and camaraderie. Join us in our spacious studio and experience printmaking on our state of the art Rembrandt etching press!

Fitting Home Sewing Patterns | Laurel Hoffman
Saturdays 9:30am – 12:30pm
October 9, 16, 23, 30 November 6, 13, 20, December 4 , 11, 18

Customize a standard-size sloper (used in industry to draft style patterns) in your true pattern size to your personal fit, including bust and asymmetrical adjustments if needed. After you have developed your custom-fitted slopers you will be shown how to determine your grading coordinates by comparing your custom-fitted slopers with the original printed slopers from which they were developed. Minimal equipment is needed, all work is demonstrated, you will receive help every step of the way.

Papermaking | Winnie Radolan

Join the artists and paper enthusiasts who have gathered in the community to explore their “voice” in the art of handmade paper. This unique, ongoing studio class features independent work with instructor guidance, so everyone can explore the medium at their own level, pursuing their personal vision. The group includes artists of all levels of experience who are exploring paper-making, working in both 2D and 3D constructions. Pulp and most equipment provided.
