Abington Art Center is a community center focused on music, drawing, painting, oil, ceramics, metals, sewing, embroidery, pottery, and jewelry classes. It is an outdoor free concert venue, with theater, dance, jazz, and live music on stage. You can buy gifts, crafts, bracelets, necklaces, and rings at the unique holiday fair.

Classes are recorded for AAC’s private use to better optimize our online programming. Recordings may also be shared with other registered students. You may mute your microphone or turn off your camera if you do not wish to be recorded.

Online Classes for Ages 7-9

Manga, Comics, & Creative Writing Ages 7-9

This is a hybrid design and writing class which is designed to increase and utilize the following skills: Creative Writing, Creative Thinking, Storytelling and Illustration. In order to create a good character, a good backstory is a must. Emphasis is made on both drawing characters and writing stories for them, with the heavier emphasis on writing strong stories for strong characters. Once the session is over, students will have 1-2 (sometimes 3-4) drawings of their character, a small written story, and a better view of the creation process.

Create Your Own Comics – Ages 9-12

This course will be an introduction to the creation of comics, with a focus on the visual art aspects of the medium. In this class students will learn how to design and draw characters, how to create background and how to effectively work within a comic page layout. By the end of the course students will have a 1-3 page comic of their own creation.

RPG Character Design – Ages 10-13

What does it take to create a good RPG character? This is the question that we will tackle during class sessions, and why a good or bad character (and story) can make or break a game.By the end of the session, students will have two fully developed and well-written characters. Students will also walk away with enhanced knowledge of character development that leads into other media such as television and movies.

Teen Fashion Illustration – Ages 12-15

Do you love to draw fashion characters, comics or design your own costumes inspired by your favorite characters? This could be the class for you! Your favorite clothes and designs first start with the designer’s imagination. Fashion has always been a way form of self-expression, modalities of identity, to tell stories and to communicate. We will be able to explore these concepts through creating our own fashion illustrations from various inspirations.

This course is designed for students to explore the themes using the supplies that they have available. You can complete these exercises with a pencil and paper.

Drawing Studio – Ages 12-15

This class will help advance students to their next level of artistic practice. Guiding you through drawing in black, white and color will strengthen the fundamental processes of art and design. Great results are produced from this creative teaching method!

Musical Theater Arts – Ages 9-16

May 5, 12, 19 and 26

Sing and dance to your favorite Broadway showtunes! In this high-energy Musical Theater Class, we cultivate both individual skills in singing, acting and dancing as well as strengthen ensemble work. Student-actors gain self-assurance in their abilities as well as a confidence that they can carry with them for a lifetime. The class culminates in a short presentation of the students’ work at the end of the 4-week block.
