UPDATE: May 28th, 2020

Hello Abington Art Center Community,

We hope you are holding steady during these “surreal and strange” times, as one of our staff members called them.

We have been continually monitoring Governor Wolf’s directives regarding reopening in Montgomery County. While we had been hoping for a June 1st start of our spring session, as of today, there is still uncertainty as to when we may again hold in-person classes at Abington Art Center.

Rest assured, as soon as that day comes, we will be ready! And we plan to offer the classes originally slated for spring semester.

For students who have enrolled in our spring courses, you may apply those fees toward a class or workshop in the delayed spring term, or any time over the next two years. If you would prefer not to take an in-person class, you may apply the appropriate portion toward AAC’s growing list of online offerings.

You may also use your tuition (or part of it) for a tax-deductible donation toward the Center and of course we would be deeply grateful. Please let us know. Due to CARES Act legislation, donations to nonprofits like AAC will receive higher tax deductions for charitable gifts in 2020.

If we have not heard from you by Friday, June 12, we will apply your payment toward future credit.

Thank you for your patience and dedication to Abington Art Center.  We are in this together!

With sincere gratitude,

UPDATE: April 29th, 2020

Hello friends of the Abington Art Center community,

We are Abington Art Center strong and resilient! AAC will stay strong throughout the Covid 19 lockdown, and weather the months ahead as the world readjusts and we prepare for life following this quarantine.

AAC has been monitoring all directives from Governor Wolf regarding the reopening of businesses and the public’s ability to begin gathering safely outside our homes. Accordingly, with the Governor, we believed the state would reopen on May 1 and we could begin Spring classes on May 4.

Unfortunately, governments don’t determine the schedule, this virus does! And sadly, our enthusiasm for a May 4 start was dashed by a continuing increase in positive cases and deaths in Pennsylvania, in general, and Montgomery County in particular. These data have led us to push back our reopening to a later date, yet to be determined.

Governor Wolf has implemented a phased plan for reopening Pennsylvania. I am sure you all have been following our governor’s Green Light-Yellow Light-Red Light plan. All of Pennsylvania is currently in the Red Light category, and Gov. Wolf anticipates that both Montgomery County and neighboring Philadelphia will be among the last counties to reopen. AAC won’t be able to reopen and hold in person classes until the number of tested cases in Montgomery County falls from 182 to 30 new cases a day over a period of 14 days. While it is difficult to predict the exact date when that will be, our plan is still to offer our roster of Spring classes in a new timeframe when we are able.

Never fear, AAC is strong and nimble! We are excited to be providing you new ways of experiencing the transformative power of the arts. Already, students have been signing up for our first online open studios for painting and clay. Our teachers are offering classes in bookmaking, painting, drawing and stop action animation, with new classes being introduced weekly. On Saturday our traditional Coffee Break series of artist talks resumes – via Zoom. And we are creating a brand new online gallery to show off your artworks and reflections during the quarantine.

Our online offerings are free, but you must register. And please don’t forget a donation! No matter how small, your donations enable AAC to keep supporting and inspiring you, our arts community, to continue your artistic journey or start a new one.

Please continue to be safe and healthy!

UPDATE: April 10th, 2020

Dear Abington Art Center Community,

We hope you and your family and friends are doing well during this difficult time.

As you may know, to do our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19, we have closed Abington Art Center and postponed the start of the Spring semester until we get the all-clear, which as of today looks like May 4. This mandatory closure will result in a significant loss in income for AAC without significantly reducing our operating expenses. In particular, we have not laid off our wonderful staff, who continue to work remotely on many projects. The faculty is also developing online classes, workshops and open studios to bring us together for artistic endeavors and inquiry through this time of separation.

Writing today, we feel especially grateful to have such a dedicated community, and we thank you for your past support of and involvement with Abington Art Center. The COVID-19 situation has underscored how much we depend on you for our continued success in providing a place where art is meaningful and transformative for us all. A donation today will help us remain open and strong when we return to full operation.

If you are able to help, please donate soon, and if possible, by the end of our fiscal year, May 31, 2020. Remember, too, all amounts are greatly appreciated, and no amount is ever too small. Donors to nonprofits like the Center will receive higher tax deductions for charitable gifts in 2020 due to CARES Act legislation.

With sincere gratitude,

UPDATE: April 1st, 2020

Dear Members of the Abington Art Center Community,

We hope you are all well and keeping safe and sane during these uncertain times. Every day brings new challenges for us all.

We are closely monitoring all of the governor’s directives regarding closures and public meetings. Until otherwise ordered, we will be closed until April 30th.  We fully understand that this date may change as things are changing daily.  Our plan is to start our Spring Session May 4th and run through mid-June. Updated registration information will be forthcoming on our website and newsletter.

In the meantime, AAC would love to engage with you by offering meaningful art-related activities while we are at home. We have posted our first mini course on our AAC YouTube Channel.  We also have two tutorials by our Acrylic instructor Elia Boe and links to our Watercolor instructor Ekaterina’s youtube channel on our website abingtonartcenter.org/art-anywhere/.

Shortly, we will be using Zoom to host virtual open studios and meetings with your classmates and instructors. An email will go out to everyone regarding a schedule and registration information. You will need to register for a meeting in order to get the login information. We miss seeing our students and will continue to offer these free meetings throughout April with your generous support.

We’re doing everything possible to maintain our ability to offer classes to all and other services that the center provides to the public. If you have any concerns or questions, please email us at studioschool@abingtonartcenter.org.

As a local arts center, we can only continue to produce quality programming through your support. Please help sustain our offerings to the community by signing up for Spring ClassesDonatingBecoming a Member and Applying for our Open Calls.

UPDATE: March 25, 2020

Dear Members of the Abington Art Center Community,

We hope you are all well and keeping safe and sane during these uncertain times.  Every day brings new challenges for us all.

We are closely monitoring all of the governor’s directives regarding closures and public meetings. Until otherwise ordered we are still planning on reopening on March 30th although we fully anticipate that mandated closures will go beyond this date. Our plan is to open when we are allowed and offer our Spring session for the full period – 7, 8 or 9 weeks depending on the class. Of course, the beginning and end dates, at this point, are unknown.

In the meantime, AAC would love to engage with you by offering meaningful art-related activities while we are at home. Shortly, we will be posting mini courses on the AAC YouTube channel. Parents will be able to access art projects to do with their children and our adult students will learn new techniques or review ones already covered in class. All mini-courses will be given by our beloved AAC faculty. We are also planning to have online content featuring our current exhibition by the American Color Print Society.

Be safe and well.

Sincerely,

UPDATE: March 18, 2020

Dear Members of the Abington Art Center Community,

Thank you for being patient in these uncertain times.  We’d like to keep you informed with updates as they happen and as we learn more about the situation everyday about the Coronavirus.

As a preventative measure and for the safety and health of our AAC family, we have been working diligently with our cleaning company to go above and beyond the recommendations that Gov. Wolf has laid out to keep our classroom environment safe. In the next two weeks, our cleaning company will be doing a deep clean and disinfection of the entire center. We have confidence that our cleaning company is an expert in this area as the bulk of their clients are hospitals and other medical facilities. Their cleaning will be comparable to that of a healthcare facility which includes using commercial grade disinfectants for the cleaning of all surfaces, doorknobs, tables and anything which the community physically touches. As follow up, we will be wiping all surfaces down with disinfectants products after the deep clean. We prevail upon everybody to also continue the recommended procedures: wash your hands frequently, practice social distancing and avoid touching your face.

We realize all students have missed at least one class from the winter session. To compensate for this, all students will be given a prorated credit, which can either be used to partially pay for an upcoming session within a year or to audit one class (or two classes, if your class had a makeup) of the same type of class if it is available this year.

As of today, we’re anticipating that our Spring session will start on time. However, we realize as the situation changes daily this might not be possible. We will make sure to keep you updated and kept informed of any changes as they unfold.

We’re doing everything possible to maintain our ability to offer classes to all and other services that the center provides to the public. If you have any concerns or questions, please email us at studioschool@abingtonartcenter.org.

As a local arts center, we can continue to produce quality programming through your support. Please help sustain our offerings to the community by signing up for Spring ClassesDonatingBecoming a Member and Applying for our Open Calls.

UPDATE: March 13, 2020

As of Friday, March 13th 2020, Abington Art Center will be closed to the public for 14 days in compliance with the order of Gov. Tom Wolf. All events during this time have been postponed and all classes are canceled. We will continue to post updates to this page as they develop.

UPDATE: March 12, 2020

Cleaning Service and Coronavirus Precautions

The cleaning service that Abington Art Center uses for our janitorial needs has been very conscientious in taking all the necessary steps and precaution possible to keep us and their other customers safe and sound during the Coronavirus situation.

Below are steps that our cleaning service is taking immediately:

  • Starting this week the cleaning company will be disinfecting any surfaces that are to be wiped down per our current cleaning specifications with a hospital grade solution called Oxivir by Diversey.  This Disinfectant has a 1-minute kill time and is approved by the CDC and EPA.  See link for approved list of chemicals by the CDC:
  • In addition to our normal cleaning specifications, at each scheduled visit they will also be disinfecting entrance area door handles, push areas and handrails. If deemed necessary there will be an increase frequency of areas already being done.
  • Our cleaning crew has been trained on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as the proper procedures to make sure the disinfecting routine is effective.  Of utmost importance is the product’s “dwell” time, which means how long a contact surface needs to stay wet to kill the virus.  The proper use of chemical is to saturate a microfiber cloth and apply to surface so it remains wet for at least a minute before drying.
  • As we continue to more frequently disinfect and wipe down high-contact touch points throughout the facility, please take personal responsibility in supporting our cleaning efforts by regularly washing your hands.
  •  As additional information transpires, the cleaning service is continuously and promptly informed on updates and best practices to keep our facility healthy.

Dear Members of the Abington Art Center Community,

Abington Art Center shares our nation’s concern of the outbreak and spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are especially aware of the incidents that have taken place closer to home here in Eastern Montgomery County. We want to assure you all that we are mindful of the prevention measures being recommended by national and local authorities and we are following the directives of these authorities as they are made available to us. It has become evident that it is the responsibility of everyone in the community to do their part in minimizing the spread of COVID-19.

Abington Art Center is making a concerted effort to protect the health and safety of our AAC family. We are strengthening our daily cleaning routine as well as disinfecting surfaces and door handles of studios, entrances and restrooms. As supply allows we will be putting hand sanitizers in all studios. We also encourage our Abington Art Center community to follow these nationally recommended preventative measures:

– Please stay home if your are not feeling well.
– Wash/scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds
– Avoid touching your face until you have washed your hands

AAC will follow directives and mandates as they are issued by Montgomery County and Abington Township regarding cancellations and closures. We will keep you informed of any changes that occur via email, regular posting on our website and through our social media.

Thank you for your understanding and adhering to this important health advice.

Please stay alert, safe and well during these uncertain times.

Sincerely,
