Abington Art Center is a community center focused on music, drawing, painting, oil, ceramics, metals, sewing, embroidery, pottery, and jewelry classes. It is an outdoor free concert venue, with theater, dance, jazz, and live music on stage. You can buy gifts, crafts, bracelets, necklaces, and rings at the unique holiday fair.

As the CDC and Montgomery County continue to update their policies surrounding COVID, we are comfortable having specialized camps, such as ceramics, in the studio designed to support them. We ask that children remained masked while indoors.

Summer Camps 2021

Camp runs Monday – Friday
Campers must register for each week they wish to attend.

Camp Withdrawal
&
Transfer Policy

Withdrawals made more than 2 weeks prior to your registered week will result in a full refund less a $25 fee. Refunds will not be given for withdrawals made less than 2 weeks prior to your registered week.

Transfers, based on availability, may be possible for a fee of $15. Deadline for transfer requests is 1 week prior to your registered week.

Art Camps – FULL

Creative Arts Camp – Ages 4-6 – FULL

Mornings 9:00am – 12:00pm

These camps are specially designed for your child’s creative hands and mind. We know how young children love to be introduced to new materials and ideas that fully engage them in the artistic process. Each week kids will create a variety of paintings, drawings, sculpture and more. Halfway through class, students will eat their own snack and take a walk outside on the grounds. Each week lessons are new, so depending on your schedule, feel free to enroll your child in camp throughout the summer.

Summer Art Camp for Kids – Ages 7-12 
Mornings 9:00am – 12:00pm

Work side-by-side with a professional artist to create your own masterpiece. Kids make new friends and together explore both traditional and non-traditional forms of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and more. This is a supportive and nurturing environment where kids receive individualized instruction in our small classes. Projects are both educational and fun; they lead you to discover your own creativity and individuality. Everyone can be an artist with the right encouragement and inspiration.

Halfway through class, students will eat their own snack and take a walk outside on the grounds. Sign your child up for a full day of camp and enjoy a free supervised lunch hour in between sessions. Each week is a new set of lessons, so depending on your schedule, feel free to enroll your child throughout the summer.

Clay Camps – FULL

Creative Clay Time and Mixed Media – Ages 7-9

The ceramic studio is a fun place to get messy and play with clay. In this safe and nurturing environment learn how to create pinch pots, animals and other inventive characters. We will teach you to get artistic and creative with clay. The second week you will be involved in building sculpture using a mix of materials so that your ceramic pieces can be glazed and fired in the kiln, ready to take home.

Sign your child up for a full day of camp and enjoy a free supervised lunch hour in between sessions.

ALL WEEKS FULL

$400 for the two week program

Sculpture and Wheel Throwing – Ages 9-12

Afternoons

Wheel throwing is a fun and challenging art form that requires focus and discipline. Learn centering and pulling and as your skills develop, create a variety of cups, bowls and vases. This is an opportunity to build work that at the same time is both beautiful and functional. The second week of the workshop is dedicated to creating mixed media sculpture so that your ceramic pieces can be glazed and fired in the kiln.

Comics and Illustration Camp – FULL

Comics and Illustration Camp – Ages 12-16

Discover how to tell stories using your creativity and drawing skills. You will explore a variety of styles, templates, and mediums to create your own narrative artwork. To aid in crafting your own story, you will also study the work of many artists and the techniques they use, providing strong foundational knowledge to help you become a Comics Artist or Illustrator.

Halfway through class, students will eat their own snack and take a walk outside on the grounds. Sign up for a full day of camp and enjoy a free supervised lunch hour in between sessions. Each week is a new set of lessons, so depending on your schedule, feel free to enroll for multiple sessions.

Acting Camps – CLOSED

Acting Camp – Ages 9-16

Explore exciting scenes and portray vibrant characters in this interactive acting camp! We engage in fun games and exercises that develop the fundamentals of acting. Students gain self-assurance in their acting as well as a self-confidence that they can keep for a lifetime. Our scene and character studies will lead us to a performance at the end of the camp.

Musical Theater Camp – Ages 9-16

Afternoons 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Sing and dance to your favorite Broadway show tunes! Each student has the opportunity to learn music, staging, and choreography both in solo-work and as an ensemble. Students gain self-assurance in their performing as well as a self-confidence that they can keep for a lifetime. Our work during the week will be highlighted in an exciting showcase at the end of camp.
