2025 Summer Juried Show: The Real

On View June 20 – July 28, 2025

Opening Reception | Friday, June 20 | 6:00p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

2025 Summer Juried Show – The Real

The Real is an exhibition that highlights artists’ technical abilities in rendering real life within art, from realism to hyperrealism.

Artists have a unique ability to blur the boundary between the physical world and the creative plane through their artwork. The effect of such, known as “trompe l’oeil”, has been seen throughout art history, from ancient Greek painter Zeuxis’ grape still life that was so realistic it attracted hungry birds, to contemporary artist Ron Mueck’s figurative sculptures that make audiences look twice. Work that exudes this level of realism continues to serve as an impressive art form and calls for both artist and audience to look closely and partake in the thrill of this expertise.

The Real Jurors

Amy Cook

In addition to being Abington Art Center’s Gallery Manager, Amy Cook is an artist based outside Philadelphia, PA.
Verity is central to everything Cook creates; she approaches her subjects with an unbiased eye, not glorifying nor beautifying, but rather capturing it in its objective truth.
Amy Cook earned her BFA in painting at Tyler School of Art and Architecture in 2021. She is also the 2021 recipient of the Alec Abels Memorial Award in Painting.

Linda Johnson

Linda Johnson is the Director of our Studio School and Galleries as well as a ceramics instructor.

Linda Johnson earned her BFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art and studied sculpture and art history at the Burren College of Art in Co. Clare Ireland. Professionally, Linda served as the Curator and Art Collection Manager for Morgan Stanley before pursuing her art career. Linda is a ceramic artist and has stocked stores across the United States for the past 20 years under the brands Little Flower Designs and Linda Johnson Studio. Based in Huntingdon Valley, PA, Johnson’s work is inspired by nature, incorporating imagery of birds and floral motifs to adorn her wares.

Award Winners

Best in Show – Triplets by Diane Turner

Triplets is a testament to an artist’s skill and ability to render. Turner’s dedication to creating such detailed works of art is evident in both her figures and the environments they exist in; both subject and background is given as much time and care as the other, and each is equally detailed. This creates a unique effects that makes Turner’s oil paintings look hyperrealistic.

Most Technically Impressive – Ripples by Carmella Tuliszewski

Ripples is a wonderful display of the watercolor medium. From the amount of detail she captures within her still lifes, to the textures and surfaces she is able to accurately convey, these paintings are not only a marvel to look at, but also evidence of Tuliszewski’s mastery of the watercolor medium.

Most Unique Application of Material – White Oak/Pine by Jared Verratti

White Oak/Pine is one of Verratti’s many hyperrealistic relief sculptures, made from wax and painted to look life-like. His work captures the things we see everyday that often go unnoticed. Through careful observation, Verratti is not only able to replicate these objects exact to life, but he is also able to elevate these objects as works of fine art. This allows audiences to appreciate the intricate details that surround us.
