Join us for the Winter Solstice on Sunday December 21st at 11:45 am.
Abington Art Center is the home of the Winifred Lutz Solstice Tower. A site specific installation along our sculpture park trail. Built on the grounds from 1992-1996 as part of a larger project titled A Reclamation Garden. The tower openings align with the sun once a year on the Winter Solstice at noon. It is truly magical to witness!
After viewing the tower, attendees are invited to head back to the entrance to join in the First Walk of our new Labyrinth! The first permanent installation in over 15 years, the labyrinth project began in late summer with the planning stages then over the fall weeks Golden Thread Labyrinths has worked with community volunteers to gather rocks from the art center grounds and install the labyrinth. Be the first to walk this amazing new installation.
We will meet at the Sculpture Park entrance just off of our driveway through the stone wall. At 11:45 am our Director of the Studio School and Galleries, Linda Johnson will lead you into the Sculpture Park to the Winifred Lutz Winter Solstice Tower. Then back to the Labyrinth where Gold Thread Labyrinths will lead the first walk!
This event is free to attend! Please dress for the weather.
