American Color Print Society: Members Spring Exhibition | Opening Reception

Comments Off on American Color Print Society: Members Spring Exhibition | Opening Reception

On View | February 28 – April 11

Opening Reception | Saturday, February 29, 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Abington Art Center is proud to host the American Color Print Society’s Members Spring Exhibition!

American Color Print Society was founded in 1939 in Philadelphia, PA. At that time, the typical print was a black and white etching, with very little chance of a color print passing a jury. In 1940, 85 artist members staged the first National Color Print Exhibition at the Philadelphia Print Club, now The Print Center. This opened printmaking to color and allowed for the experimentation that is part of our tradition today.

Located on an historic 27-acre campus in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, Abington Art Center presents exhibitions, educational programs and events designed to make the visual arts engaging and approachable. AAC is housed in Alverthorpe Manor, home of respected rare book and print collector Lessing J. Rosenwald and his wife Edith, who donated this elegant estate to the Township of Abington as a cultural and recreational gathering place for the community.

JUROR : Jennifer Manzella Printmaker, Teacher | Arcadia University

Jennifer Manzella has received an MFA in printmaking at The University of Georgia and has been an art educator for over 10 years. Jennifer has been in numerous juried exhibitions, including two with the International Print Center in New York City. She has been involved in several public art projects in New York City and Philadelphia, has been a recipient of the Andy Warhol Foundation Grant, and has done several artist residencies.

This event has been postponed due to the 14 day closure in Montgomery County.  You can read more about the precautions we are taking concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) HERE

Abington Art Center is proud to host this special Presentation in conjunction with the American Color Print Society: Members Spring Exhibition.

This lecture is about Alverthorpe Gallery during the time it was the home of the Lessing J. Rosenwald Collection of Prints, Rare Books and Drawings. Tony Rosati will review memories and anecdotes from the way it was when he worked at Alverthorpe as a curatorial assistant, the last 9 years before it was relocated in Washington DC. Rosati’s lecture will also discuss the staff of Alverthorpe Gallery and Lessing Rosenwald.
