Introduction to Gouache 4 weeks

You will learn the fundamentals of painting in gouache discovering essential techniques and practice painting in a variety of environments. You will learn about different surfaces such as mylar, toned papers, brushes, brands of gouache, and painters that use gouache and how to apply gouache at its right consistency. REGISTER BELOW 
Drawing with Color Pencil 4 weeks

Discover the vibrancy and realism you can achieve with color pencil! Topics in this online class will include descriptive and expressive line quality, color relationships, cross-hatching and layering, capturing light and volume, and working on colored and textured papers. We will be drawing from still lives you set up on your own at home, photographs, and master copies.

Upcycle Art Ages 9-12 - 4 weeks

Use a little imagination and transform things lying around the house - and outside - into something new! Turn a sock into a cute bunny or doughnut stuffie, rethink a pair of old jeans into a storage basket, transform a milk carton into a colorful planter, the sky’s the limit!
Doodle Masters Ages 9-12 - 4 weeks

Doodling is an art form that is easy to accomplish from anywhere! All you need are a pencil, pen, eraser, paper and an open mind. In this class, we will take the drawings often found on the margins of notebooks to the next level focusing on developing our own characters, compositions and lettering. Focus will be on using line, shape and positive/negative space to create an individual signature style. Each week will focus on a new set of drawing exercises and themes. REGISTER BELOW

Cartooning and Comic Books Ages 9-12 - 4 weeks

Focus your imagination to create your own characters and make your own cartoons in this fun and exciting class. Original drawings will bring your stories to life on the page. This class will lead you, step-by-step, to design your own comic books. REGISTER BELOW
Sewing Tutorials with Laurel Hoffman

The Cover Aid PHL Fabric Mask v1.0 is a standard design that is widely accepted. Our sewing instructor Laurel Hoffman has generously donated hundreds of masks to those in need and gifted Abington Art Center's staff with handmade masks as well. You can find patterns and instructions on the Cover Aid PHL site below and follow along a set-by-step tutorial on youtube.

Scarves are a glamorous alternative to masks and easy to make! Today in the midst of a pandemic, everyone is wearing masks. But there is an alternative, suggested by Elizabeth Wellington, fashion staff columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. She wrote a column, Stylish must-have: The scarf. In her column Ms. Wellington says that scarves bring a welcome bit of brightness to what’s become our daily dose of bad news. She shows Dr. Deborah Birx wearing one of her trademark scarves. Ekaterina Vanovskaya's Youtube Channel

You don't need to be in the studio to make a masterpiece. Our Watercolor Studio instructor Ekaterina has created a youtube channel with tips and tricks on how to keep yourself making art from home. Her show "Drawings at the Kitchen Table" focuses on dry media and the best tools to use, while "Watercolors in the Kitchen!" thoroughly explains what materials to use for making your own watercolors including paper, paint and brushes.

Painting Tips and Tricks with Elia Boe

Acrylic Painting Instructor Elia Boe comprehensively walks us through her process of painting her stoic yet fuzzy model, River. Here's a step-by-step peek at her painting from the very beginning, starting with the initial sketch and all the way through to the final details.
