The City as Performative Object: An Essay in Footsteps
Speaker: Esther Polak
Esther will show a short version of her film, “Essay in Footsteps,” which takes place in Google Earth: a landscape of almost seamlessly stitched-together satellite images. The location of the walk is a utopian apartment building in the Amsterdam’s Bijlmer neighbourhood. Esther talks/performs her exploration of different possibilities of “move-categories” and “move-drag.”
Esther Polak is an Amsterdam-based landscape artist working in the field of New Media. Since the beginning of 2010, Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum collaborate under the name of PolakVanBekkum. Esther is one of the few women to have won the Golden Nica in Interactive Art, Digital Art’s highest prize, at Ars Electronica in 2005.
