Latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) News

UPDATE: March 25, 2020

Dear Members of the Abington Art Center Community,

We hope you are all well and keeping safe and sane during these uncertain times.  Every day brings new challenges for us all.

We are closely monitoring all of the governor’s directives regarding closures and public meetings. Until otherwise ordered we are still planning on reopening on March 30th although we fully anticipate that mandated closures will go beyond this date. Our plan is to open when we are allowed and offer our Spring session for the full period – 7, 8 or 9 weeks depending on the class. Of course, the beginning and end dates, at this point, are unknown.

In the meantime, AAC would love to engage with you by offering meaningful art-related activities while we are at home. Shortly, we will be posting mini courses on the AAC YouTube channel. Parents will be able to access art projects to do with their children and our adult students will learn new techniques or review ones already covered in class. All mini-courses will be given by our beloved AAC faculty. We are also planning to have online content featuring our current exhibition by the American Color Print Society.

Be safe and well.

Sincerely,
Rosalie Guzofsky
Executive Director

UPDATE: March 18, 2020

Dear Members of the Abington Art Center Community,

Thank you for being patient in these uncertain times.  We’d like to keep you informed with updates as they happen and as we learn more about the situation everyday about the Coronavirus.

As a preventative measure and for the safety and health of our AAC family, we have been working diligently with our cleaning company to go above and beyond the recommendations that Gov. Wolf has laid out to keep our classroom environment safe. In the next two weeks, our cleaning company will be doing a deep clean and disinfection of the entire center. We have confidence that our cleaning company is an expert in this area as the bulk of their clients are hospitals and other medical facilities. Their cleaning will be comparable to that of a healthcare facility which includes using commercial grade disinfectants for the cleaning of all surfaces, doorknobs, tables and anything which the community physically touches. As follow up, we will be wiping all surfaces down with disinfectants products after the deep clean. We prevail upon everybody to also continue the recommended procedures: wash your hands frequently, practice social distancing and avoid touching your face.

We realize all students have missed at least one class from the winter session. To compensate for this, all students will be given a prorated credit, which can either be used to partially pay for an upcoming session within a year or to audit one class (or two classes, if your class had a makeup) of the same type of class if it is available this year.

As of today, we’re anticipating that our Spring session will start on time. However, we realize as the situation changes daily this might not be possible. We will make sure to keep you updated and kept informed of any changes as they unfold.

We’re doing everything possible to maintain our ability to offer classes to all and other services that the center provides to the public. If you have any concerns or questions, please email us at studioschool@abingtonartcenter.org.

As a local arts center, we can continue to produce quality programming through your support. Please help sustain our offerings to the community by signing up for Spring ClassesDonatingBecoming a Member and Applying for our Open Calls.

Be safe and well.

Sincerely,
Rosalie Guzofsky
Executive Director

UPDATE: March 13, 2020

As of Friday, March 13th 2020, Abington Art Center will be closed to the public for 14 days in compliance with the order of Gov. Tom Wolf. All events during this time have been postponed and all classes are canceled. We will continue to post updates to this page as they develop.

UPDATE: March 12, 2020

Cleaning Service and Coronavirus Precautions

The cleaning service that Abington Art Center uses for our janitorial needs has been very conscientious in taking all the necessary steps and precaution possible to keep us and their other customers safe and sound during the Coronavirus situation.

Below are steps that our cleaning service is taking immediately:

  • Starting this week the cleaning company will be disinfecting any surfaces that are to be wiped down per our current cleaning specifications with a hospital grade solution called Oxivir by Diversey.  This Disinfectant has a 1-minute kill time and is approved by the CDC and EPA.  See link for approved list of chemicals by the CDC:
  • In addition to our normal cleaning specifications, at each scheduled visit they will also be disinfecting entrance area door handles, push areas and handrails. If deemed necessary there will be an increase frequency of areas already being done.
  • Our cleaning crew has been trained on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as the proper procedures to make sure the disinfecting routine is effective.  Of utmost importance is the product’s “dwell” time, which means how long a contact surface needs to stay wet to kill the virus.  The proper use of chemical is to saturate a microfiber cloth and apply to surface so it remains wet for at least a minute before drying.
  • As we continue to more frequently disinfect and wipe down high-contact touch points throughout the facility, please take personal responsibility in supporting our cleaning efforts by regularly washing your hands.
  •  As additional information transpires, the cleaning service is continuously and promptly informed on updates and best practices to keep our facility healthy.

March 11th, 2020

Dear Members of the Abington Art Center Community,

Abington Art Center shares our nation’s concern of the outbreak and spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are especially aware of the incidents that have taken place closer to home here in Eastern Montgomery County. We want to assure you all that we are mindful of the prevention measures being recommended by national and local authorities and we are following the directives of these authorities as they are made available to us. It has become evident that it is the responsibility of everyone in the community to do their part in minimizing the spread of COVID-19.

Abington Art Center is making a concerted effort to protect the health and safety of our AAC family. We are strengthening our daily cleaning routine as well as disinfecting surfaces and door handles of studios, entrances and restrooms. As supply allows we will be putting hand sanitizers in all studios. We also encourage our Abington Art Center community to follow these nationally recommended preventative measures:

– Please stay home if your are not feeling well.
– Wash/scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds
– Avoid touching your face until you have washed your hands

AAC will follow directives and mandates as they are issued by Montgomery County and Abington Township regarding cancellations and closures. We will keep you informed of any changes that occur via email, regular posting on our website and through our social media.

Thank you for your understanding and adhering to this important health advice.

Please stay alert, safe and well during these uncertain times.

Sincerely,
Rosalie Guzofsky
Executive Director
