Annual Juried Show 2016

May 7 – June 30, 2016

For over 30 years, this group show has featured between 60 and 90 works of emerging and professional artists from the Philadelphia region and beyond. A wide range of artistic experience and media has meant an exuberant and unique show each year. We see this as an opportunity to spark artistic discussion, welcome fresh faces to our Art Center, and to help artists of all ages build their exhibition resumes.

This year our juror is Leah Modigliani, Assistant Professor and Program Head of the Visual Studies Department at Tyler School of Art. Modigliani is an artist and writer who earned her BFA from Concordia University, an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a PhD in Art History and Criticism from Stony Brook University. She has taught visual studies, studio art and modern and contemporary art history at California College for the Arts, the University of Guelph, the University of Toronto and Ontario College of Art and Design University. Her visual work has been exhibited at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax, The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto and the Moore Space in Miami, among other galleries and museums.

Curatorial Review 2016-17 for the Galleries and Sculpture Park

July 2016 – May 2017

Professional artists or artist organizations are invited to submit artworks and proposals for consideration in a solo, group, or curated show as well as display in our outdoor Sculpture Park. Works in the galleries are on display for roughly 6-8 weeks and outdoor sculpture is displayed for a length of time mutually agreed upon by AAC and the artist. Selected artists are asked to participate in a range of public programs such as talks and workshops intended to engage audiences in their process and work.

Solo Series

AAC’s main gallery exhibitions are organized by our curatorial staff and are planned well in advance. The theme or media content of the shows evolve through the review process. We are especially seeking artists to pitch ideas using new technologies or multi-discipline collaborations for display in our new Makerspace Gallery. The Solo Series offers regional artists the opportunity to show a body of work in one of our four individual galleries.

Sculpture Park

Abington Art Center supports the creation and promotion of outdoor works by regional and national artists. Works with an ecological emphasis are of primary interest, both temporary/ephemeral and more permanent. Proposals for relocating previously created work will also be considered.

Outdoor works must be suitable for a public setting and artists are encouraged to submit proposals that recognize the natural attributes of AAC’s elegant estate grounds.

Rules of Entry:

  • $40 entry fee, AAC Members free. Membership entitles you to free entry into the Annual Juried Show ($15-30 value)
  • Applicants must submit 10 images representing the body of the work proposed, dating back no more than 3 years
  • Current short resume/bio
  • A one-page Artist Statement about the works submitted and/or proposed to be exhibited
  • Only artists accepted to exhibit will be notified by email

Artists will be expected to mount their own work under the direction of AAC staff and return the space to its original condition after exhibition. AAC receives 30% commission on all sales.

Submission process is digital: You will need documents (.doc, .rtf) & image files (.jpg or .png, etc.) of your work.
