Age Restrictions – 16+

Students who are age 16 and older are eligible to register for adult classes. Ages 15 and younger must register for a YOUTH CLASS.

Painting

Beginners as well as those with more experience who would like to ease into the medium will explore the possibilities and thrill of oil painting in this introductory course. Still-life and other in-class exercises will hone your skills and creative expression! Learn basic oil techniques and explore this classic art medium.

Learn color theory and brushwork techniques that will help you paint beautiful, fluid images full of bright color. Find comfort in the fluid and immersive experience of painting with watercolor while expressing your ideas on paper. This is a class for students of all skill levels and abilities.

Students will spend time observing objects and landscapes to produce drawings and watercolor paintings that feel fluid and full of movement. Express your ideas, work with color, and practice a variety of brushstrokes with other watercolor artists looking to develop and enhance their skill set.

Using acrylics is a great introduction to the art of painting because it is a quick drying medium that gives you fast results. Without the more demanding processes that accompany oils, acrylics allow the artist to immerse themselves into the materiality of paint. Students with acrylic experience will explore new techniques and advance their conceptual practices while creating many energetic paintings that are full of lively brush strokes and bright colors.

Develop your technique working with oil paint. This medium produces vivid colors with rich, thick and seductive effects. This course is designed to introduce students to the techniques, materials, and concepts of mixed media and collage. Students will explore the creative possibilities of combining various materials to create unique works of art. The course will cover a range of topics including composition, color theory, layering, texture and surface manipulation. Through the process of experimentation and exploration, students will develop their own artistic voice and gain an understanding of the different ways mixed media and collage can be used as a means of personal expression.
We will also discuss what artists have produced in the past and how they are exploring this area of expression today.

List of basic materials for this course.

1.    Matte Medium (most important)
2.    Small canvas or canvas boards: 8×10, 9×12, 11×14, etc.
3.    Paint brushes, x-acto knife, scissors
4.    Mixed media tablet. 11×14 is good.
5.    Papers of various types and textures, including magazines, tissue, wrapping paper, paper with patterns, junk mail, cardboard, etc.
6.    Digital elements, such as photos or computer generated images
7.    Paints, including acrylic, watercolor, and gouache
8.    Markers, pens, pencils, etc.
9.    Scraps of fabric, string, twine, etc.

Surface Design Techniques

All Levels Mosaics | Wednesdays 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Learn mosaic techniques using found materials that range from ceramic shards, tiles, glass, and more. Students will create their own tile from clay and then design and arrange the pieces to create fascinating patterns. While considering the history of mosaics and upcycling possabilities of the medium, students will practice application techniques. Have fun and enjoy the creative possibilities through this course perfect for beginners and those with more experience.

Printmaking & More

Join the artists and paper enthusiasts who have gathered in the community to explore their voice through the art of handmade paper. This unique, ongoing studio class features independent work with instructor guidance, so everyone can explore the medium at their own level, pursuing their personal vision. The group includes artists of all levels of experience who are exploring paper-making, working in both 2D and 3D constructions. Pulp and most equipment provided.
An additional materials fee of $40 will be paid to the instructor on the first day of class.

Discover a variety of printmaking methods including monotype, collagraph, linocut and drypoint. These mediums provide an introduction to the art of printmaking for the novice and a refresher for those with experience. The class is tailored to the students’ interests. It allows for individualized instruction with ongoing demonstrations and informal critiques. The class environment is one of mutual support, camaraderie and fun! Join us in our spacious studio and experience printmaking on our state of the art Rembrandt etching press.
