Visual Art Intensive
Ages 9-12
Our camps are designed for all kids who love to make art! This is a great opportunity to spend the time you need fine-tuning your skills and learning news ideas, techniques, and processes. Our skilled instructors will teach painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, bookmaking and more. At the end of the summer each child will have their work displayed in our Annual Kids Festival Art Exhibition.
Week 1: June 21 – 25
- 2D & 3D Automobiles
Design your own fast and sleek racing autos, cars of the future and more. Grab a map and prepare for your driver’s license down the road!

Study the art of watercolor to paint things from life and your imagination. Using bold brushstrokes, colors and textures. Your paintings will jump off the page!

Week 2: June 28 – July 2
- Outer Space
Draw and paint outer space as a beautiful landscape full of stars, planets and meteors. Build rockets and satellites for space exploration to open up a whole new dimension of the universe.

- Cartoon and Illustration
Are you passionate about drawing cartoons and superheroes? Then you’ll like to develop your own characters and write storylines for a series of illustrations and a comic book full of action and adventure.

Week 3: July 5 – July 9
- Mixed Media & Collage Techniques
Look at the collage work of Picasso to get ideas for mixed media and 2-D work, then make it unique. Use found objects and other sculptural materials to build contemporary 3-D art.

- Art Goes Green
Think about the environment and how to save the earth’s resources. Brainstorming will lead to the development of new and exciting green drawing, painting and sculpture projects.

Week 4: July 12 – July 16
- Art Inventions
Put yourself in Einstein’s shoes and invent 3-D machines, contraptions, and imaginative ways to improve the way we live! Draw sketches, make diagrams and paintings to bring your ideas to life.

- Contemporary Art Projects
Learn about the ideas and artwork of the people who are making today’s art. Students will select materials, draw, paint and build sculpture in the role of a contemporary artist.

Week 5: July 19 – July 23
- Environmental Art
Walk through AAC’s Sculpture Park to learn how artists observe and interpret nature through art. Gather ideas to create artwork based on the outdoors and what you see around you.

- Alternative 3D Designs
Use an assortment of materials to make three-dimensional designs to wear and display. Found objects, cloth, beads and more can be combined to create great pieces to show off to your friends.

August Art Camps
AAC camps can keep your child busy for the entire summer. Three-hour classes give kids the time to really engage in a variety of art projects and talk about what they have learned with their teachers and friends. Enjoy 2D and 3D art using all types of materials supplied by the art center.

Mother Nature is full of beautiful designs. Make sketchbooks and journals to record your impressions of flowers, trees and animals from the woods. Bind handmade books using natural materials; and found objects to create sculptural works of art.
