Galleries
Over the years, AAC has become an important venue for today’s artists.
AAC’s Galleries welcome everyone from school children and families to art enthusiasts and tourists. The exhibition program also provides important professional opportunities for emerging and established artists. Related educational programs such as art lectures, slide presentations and workshops provide meaningful context to aid understanding, stimulate dialogue and foster an appreciation of contemporary art.
When visiting Abington Art Center’s Galleries you can expect to find curated group shows of today’s artists. Typically, the Center exhibits three major groups shows along with the Annual Juried Show each year.
Sue Spaid now joins Abington Art Center as curator. Spaid is a philosopher, curator, writer and lecturer. Currently, Sue teaches at Tyler School of Art and Penn State Abington. She has an extensive list of projects that she has curated around the country and the globe. From 1999 to 2002, she worked as curator at The Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati and before that she owned a gallery in Los Angeles.
Independent Curator Amy Lipton joined Abington Art Center in November 2004. She continues to work on projects with the Art Center while assuming a new job as director of The Fields Sculpture Park at OMI in upstate New York. Her past work includes Ecoartspace, a non-profit dedicated to raising environmental awareness through the arts and “Ecovention” an exhibition co-curated with Sue Spaid, at the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
