What do you think of when you hear the term Arts and Crafts? In the case of textile arts, you may think of yarn on needles or fabric on a hoop. Yet, the process of making crafts like knitwear and embroidery are quite arithmetical. It requires figuring out the logic of stitching and tweaking the variables. From a textile loom to a desktop computer, the stitches in your garment and the letters on your screen are both the result of operations executed based on data input. This lecture will look at the rich history of the relationship between machines and craft, and how they can be used together both for art making and computer science education.
