Curriculum
Abington Art Center’s studio school programs are guided by an educational philosophy that emphasizes free choice learning opportunities for community members from age 3 to 93+. Joining a class or workshop through the studio school means that you will experience the process of making art in our ceramics, jewelry, photography, painting/drawing, dance or youth department.
Two factors that make AAC’s classes so successful are our students and faculty. Instructors work with you to develop or strengthen your skills and techniques so your work reaches its personal best. Everyone in the classroom is encouraged to share their insights, knowledge and experience– resulting in a positive and creative atmosphere where students develop relationships as well as artistic skill.
CORE CLASSES:
Designed for those wishing for a more in-depth, self-paced experience in traditional art mediums. Core classes are longer, running anywhere between nine and twelve weeks and can be repeated as many times as you like.
Foundation Workshops:
Foundation classes are a fast and fun way to get you interested in making art. They will introduce you to our studios, the materials and basic techniques of your chosen creative outlet. We recommend taking a Foundation class before registering for a CORE class. All materials for Foundation Workshops are included.
Open Learning Workshops:
Never stop learning! These workshops run anywhere from 1 day to 4 weeks and are for all skill levels. Our one night workshops offer a taste of a department without the commitment of signing up for a full session. These workshops promise to be engaging and fun. Try one from each department. Please refer to our CORE CLASSES brochure for longer, more in-depth classes.
ADVANCEMENT WORKSHOPS:
Designed to focus on specific materials and techniques, these workshops are recommended for those students who would like to deepen their knowledge of their desired medium. We also recommend that students who wish to take these courses have previous experience elsewhere or have taken a Foundation and/or Core class.
