Curriculum
Abington Art Center’s studio school programs are guided by an educational philosophy that emphasizes free choice learning opportunities for community members from age 3 to 93 +.
Two factors that make AAC’s classes so successful are our students and faculty. Instructors work one on one with you to develop or strengthen your skills and techniques so your work reaches its personal best. Everyone in the classroom is encouraged to share their insights, knowledge and experience – resulting in a positive and creative atmosphere where students develop relationships as well as artistic skills. Ceramics
AAC offers classes in hand building and wheel throwing for students of all levels of experience. Our studio has eight wheels and plenty of workspace to create your works of art. Create dinnerware, garden planters and more to beautify your home and garden.
Jewelry
Our jewelry studio is one of the most well equipped studios in the area. It includes enamel and kilns, propane torches, and a hydraulic press. Learn how to craft one of a kind rings, bracelets or necklaces to show off to your family or friends.
Photography
We can provide you with a unique experience in a traditional dark room. Using a 35mm camera you will learn how to make negatives and create striking black and white prints. Our experienced instructor will show you how.
Painting/Drawing
Whether you are a beginning or more advanced student learn to paint and draw in a fun and exciting environment. Classes are small and intimate, allowing our teachers to provide you with individualized instruction.
Movement
Give your body an exciting challenge with classes designed to be fun and energetic, or peaceful and relaxed. Further your body and mind through our yoga, pilates or zumba courses.
Dance
Get in the groove and get smooth with basic ballroom, swing, tango and more. You and your partner will enjoy yourselves so much that you will be coming back for more good music and good times. Our ballet classes are taught by expert instructors who will challenge you and sharpen your ballet skills.
Youth Classes
Children love our art classes making a variety of different painting, drawing and sculpture projects with their teachers. They get the chance to look at different artists’ work for inspiration that make for unique and creative works of art.
Youth Dance
Ballet is a beautiful art form that children love and enjoy. Our ballet teachers are able to nurture the artistic talent of young dancers so that they can reach their highest potential. Our musical theater class is a fun and exciting way to hit the stage!
