About: renee

Renee Ford-Conway, Educator and Artist, and resident of Montgomery County. As the mentor for the PNC Arts Alive project at Abington Art Center, I feel a keen sense of excitement as I introduce the young reporters to the project. I know that it is going to be an amazing journey of discovery — discovering art, community and newly realized aspects of themselves. During our recent two-hour introductory seminar, the multifaceted group of talented students learned about the Get art. Feel Alive. Project. These creative students have a common denominator—ART—whether it is dance, music, sculpture, or painting, making them the perfect spokespeople. I shared with them my background as a previous actress, dancer, and spokesperson in order to demonstrate my connection to the Arts. I emphasized my love for color, movement, and composition and explained how they could use these areas to enhance their insight for various artistic modes of expression. I also emphasized to these students that their writing task is not to merely provide descriptive details about the artists’ work, but to incorporate their own personality and individual artistic perspective. “This will be a yearlong journey,” I informed them. It will be filled with an outreach of artistic avenues—in their communities, in their schools, and among their peers. My goal for this unique group of young people is that they will take their artistic outlook to the next level as they become “Art Ambassadors” promoting the Abington Art Center’s exhibits through this generous and innovative PNC initiative.
